Q&A: Lakeshore Learning Materials

Recently, the Cabinet for Economic Development conducted an interview with Artin Ghazarian, chief distribution and logistics officer at Lakeshore Learning Materials. Lakeshore Learning announced in March 2023 plans to build a new distribution facility in Midway, a $27.3 million investment that will create 40 full-time jobs.

Why was Midway/Kentucky the right location for this project? Lakeshore Learning was drawn to Kentucky because of its wonderful sense of community and the state’s rich history of supporting families, education, and businesses like ours. We are so happy to be an active part of the Midway community.

What is the significance of this project for moving the company toward its objectives? This new project marks yet another step forward for both Lakeshore Learning and the surrounding local community. With this addition, we’re excited to continue to expand operations and further hone supply chain capabilities.

What other partners played a vital role in making this project possible?
Lakeshore Learning is partnering with the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the Midway community to make this expansion possible. We’re proud to continue to grow here and look forward to serving even more customers with this expansion.

What can you say about the local workforce’s ability to meet Lakeshore Learning’s needs?
Many of Lakeshore Learning’s dedicated and skilled employees come from Midway and Woodford County, but the majority travel from other counties, and I expect that to be the case with this expansion. The local workforce has been a joy to work with, and have been a key part in helping us exceed our company’s goals.

Any specific skillsets or positions that currently need to be filled?
Lakeshore Learning’s expansion to this distribution facility will bring new jobs, including entry-level, supervisory, and manager distribution roles. To find more information about the positions Lakeshore Learning is hiring for at the expanded facility, visit lakeshorelearning.com/about/careers.

What are the prospects for Lakeshore Learning’s continued growth in Kentucky?
At this time, we are focusing our efforts on the expansion of the Kentucky facility and on our third distribution center in Utah, which will open in January 2025. To learn more about Lakeshore Learning, visit lakeshorelearning.com.
